Energy Audit
Reducing your energy and carbon footprint has become a business necessity. Tenants are demanding to know what the owner has done to Green the facility. Employees and potential recruits want to know that their employer is proactive in Energy and the Environment. Building and business owners are aware of the significant return on investment for many energy conservation measures.
Government has mandated energy efficiency and made funding available to motivate building to implement energy efficiency programs. Before you can plan your energy conservation trip, you must determine your starting point. How does your building rate compared to other buildings? Does your building have potential for a rapid return on your energy conservation measures and investment?
Over time, building mechanical and electrical systems become inefficient due to obsolescence, out of spec adjustments, equipment failure, control failures and deferred maintenance. Comfort and energy efficiency suffer. Significant savings may be realized with little or no capital expense. Lighting technology and lighting energy efficiency have made major advances in the last few years. Any building with ten year old lighting can realize significant and quick returns on lighting retrofits.
Energy Star Label
The EPA sponsors the Energy Star Label for Buildings. This program provides the Benchmarking tool and database to rate the energy efficiency of buildings. Utilizing this tool will establish the potential for energy savings. Buildings that perform in the top 25% of their category are eligible to display the Energy Star Logo and place a plaque on the building.
The Phase One Energy Audit data may be used by the customer to rate their building and start the qualification process for the Energy Star Label.
USGBC LEED CERTIFICATION
The US Green Building Council (USGBC) sponsors the Leadership in Energy and Environment (LEED) Certification program. Existing buildings are eligible to obtain LEED Certification, Silver, Gold and Platinum by implementing green strategies in the operation and maintenance of their building.
The Phase One Energy Audit is a prerequisite to obtaining LEED Certification.
